Warranty Terms & Conditions
These terms govern all HP large-format printer hardware sold and supplied by Graficomp cc. Please read them carefully before purchase.
Section 1
Pricing & Payment
All prices quoted are exclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT) at the current rate of 15%. Quoted prices are valid for seven (7) calendar days from the date of issue and are subject to change without notice thereafter.
Payment for hardware is required in full before delivery or installation. Ownership of goods does not transfer to the purchaser until payment has been received in full by Graficomp cc. Graficomp reserves the right to repossess goods where full payment has not been received.
Section 2
Standard Warranty Coverage
All HP large-format printers sold by Graficomp carry a one-year onsite warranty covering both parts and labour, subject to the terms set out in this document. The warranty commences on the date of delivery or installation, whichever is later.
All onsite warranty work is performed by HP-authorised service engineers employed by or contracted to Graficomp.
Note: These printers are classified as industrial equipment and do not fall under the replacement provisions of the Consumer Protection Act. The primary remedy under this warranty is repair, not replacement.
Section 3
Onsite Service Coverage Area
Onsite warranty service is provided at no additional charge within a 50-kilometre radius of Graficomp branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban.
Service calls beyond this radius are subject to travel charges at Graficomp's standard rates. Graficomp will advise on any applicable charges prior to dispatching an engineer.
Section 4
Out-of-Box & Early Failures
Should a unit be found defective on delivery or during early installation, Graficomp will arrange onsite repair by an HP-authorised engineer at no charge within the warranty period.
As these units are industrial equipment, a replacement unit will not be provided in lieu of repair. Graficomp will work to resolve any defect promptly and will keep the customer informed throughout the repair process.
Section 5
Site Readiness
The customer is responsible for ensuring the installation site is fully prepared and suitable before any scheduled installation or service visit. This includes adequate power supply, correct environmental conditions, sufficient floor space, and ventilation as specified in the printer's installation guide.
Important: Any subsequent call-out required because a site is unprepared or unsuitable at the time of the visit will incur additional charges at Graficomp's standard call-out rates.
Section 6
Printhead Warranty
HP printheads are covered until the printhead's printed expiry date or until 1,000 ml of ink has been cycled through the printhead — whichever condition is reached first.
Coverage periods by printhead model:
- HP 836, HP 841: 6 months from installation date, or until the ink usage threshold is reached
- HP 876, HP 886: Up to 2 years from installation date, subject to ml usage limits
- All other printhead models are covered per the standard HP warranty terms applicable at the time of purchase
Printhead warranty claims require a printhead service report generated directly from the printer. See the Returns Policy for instructions on how to generate this report.
Section 7
Warranty Exclusions
The following are expressly excluded from warranty coverage:
- Media head crashes — damage caused by media feeding incorrectly, paper jams, or physical impact to the printhead carriage
- Damage resulting from the use of non-HP or third-party inks, refilled cartridges, or tampered consumables
- Damage caused by misuse, neglect, unauthorised modifications, or operation outside the printer's specified environment
- Consumable items — including ink cartridges, maintenance cartridges, and printheads — where the warranty threshold has been reached
- Cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality
- Damage resulting from failure to follow HP's installation or operational guidelines
Important: Use of non-HP inks or refilled cartridges will void HP's printhead and printer warranty in full. Graficomp strongly recommends using only genuine HP consumables.
Section 8
Parts-Only Warranty
Certain products or configurations may be supplied with a parts-only warranty. Under this arrangement, Graficomp will supply required replacement parts at no charge, but the customer is responsible for the cost of the engineer's labour and any applicable travel.
Full terms and conditions for parts-only warranty coverage are available in the document below:
Section 9
HP Care Pack Extended Warranty
HP Care Packs extend and enhance the standard warranty with options for multi-year coverage, next-business-day on-site response, and additional support services. Care Pack coverage must be activated at the time of printer installation by a Graficomp engineer.
Full Care Pack terms and conditions — including coverage levels, exclusions, and claim procedures — are available in the document below:
