Lower Ink Cost Than UV
Water-based HP Latex inks cost less per ml than UV-curable alternatives. For a production operation printing consistent volume, the ink cost difference over the life of the machine is a material financial advantage.
The HP Latex 630 is a 64-inch (1,630 mm) roll-to-roll large format printer designed for signage, display graphics, vehicle graphics, textile applications, and interior decoration. It produces up to 14 m²/hr (151 ft²/hr) in standard 6-pass mode and up to 35 m²/hr (377 ft²/hr) in 2-pass draft mode using water-based HP 832 Latex inks in 1-litre cartridges. Maximum roll weight is 42 kg. Prints exit dry and ready for immediate lamination, with no outgassing wait. The 630 carries UL GREENGUARD Gold, UL ECOLOGO, and EPEAT certifications, enabling access to odour-sensitive indoor environments without special ventilation. Sold and serviced in South Africa by Graficomp, an HP Amplify Commercial Specialist and certified HP ASDP service partner.
HP Latex 630 Printer producing retail signage with water-based HP 832 Latex inks on self-adhesive vinyl
Spec sheets show headline speeds. These are the operational advantages that determine your actual cost per square metre over three years of production.

HP Latex prints directly on tissue paper, pure cotton, coated fabrics, canvas, and synthetic textiles when used with a liner. Textile and soft-signage applications are a growing revenue stream that UV and most eco-solvent systems cannot serve from the same machine.
Head strikes happen. On HP Latex, replacing a printhead takes under 10 minutes and requires no engineer on site. You order the head, install it yourself, and you are back in production the same day. On many competing platforms, a head strike means waiting for a technician and potentially days of downtime.
HP ships parts by air freight only — no sea freight. If a part is not already in South Africa, HP will fly it in within three business days. Most units and consumables are held in local SA stock. HP also delivers equipment free to any location in South Africa, saving thousands of rand for businesses in outlying areas.
South African print businesses on working with Graficomp.
The installation team was on-site the same week. They didn't leave until we were producing at quality. That level of service is rare in this industry — most suppliers drop the machine and disappear.
We moved from an eco-solvent machine and the difference in throughput was immediate. No outgassing wait means we can laminate same-day. Our turnaround on retail jobs halved.
When we had a printhead issue, Graficomp had the replacement part on-site within two business days. We were back in production before the end of the week. That's the HP parts promise in action.
The rental structure made sense for our cash flow. Fixed monthly cost, HP-certified service included. We went from capital expenditure avoidance to owning a machine we couldn't have justified outright.
We needed access to textile and fabric substrates without buying a second machine. The HP Latex 630 handles both vinyl production and soft-signage from the same platform. That versatility changed our offering completely.

The 630 is the natural upgrade from eco-solvent or older latex technology. You gain access to odour-sensitive indoor environments, eliminate the outgassing delay before lamination, and open décor and wallcovering applications without ventilation investment.

The 630 accepts rolls from 18 to 64 inches wide (23 to 64 inches with full support), with a maximum roll weight of 42 kg (92.6 lb) and maximum roll diameter of 249 mm (9.8 in). An automatic horizontal cutter handles vinyl, banner, canvas, and paper-based media. A take-up reel is included for unattended production runs.
If your operation regularly runs rolls heavier than 42 kg, or needs automated double-sided printing for flags and banners, the HP Latex 730 raises the limit to 55 kg and adds both capabilities.
HP Latex inks adhere directly to a wide range of fabric and textile substrates when used with a liner — including canvas, coated polyester, backlit textile, pure cotton, tissue paper, and synthetic blends. Textile printing for soft-signage, interior display, exhibition backdrops, and custom apparel is a growing application category that UV and most eco-solvent platforms cannot serve without additional equipment or consumable cost.
For textile-intensive operations requiring production at scale, ask Graficomp about the HP Latex Production and Textile Solutions pathway, which includes dedicated RIP profiles and media guidance for fabric applications.
The HP Latex 630 does not include an embedded spectrophotometer. Third-party spectrophotometers, including the X-Rite i1Pro and Barbieri series, are compatible for in-house ICC profiling. The 630 ships with HP SAi Flexi RIP Basic, which supports manual ICC profile loading.
For production teams who require in-house ICC profile creation and automated colour verification across repeat brand rollouts, the HP Latex 730 and HP Latex 830 include an HP Embedded Spectrophotometer. That is the primary technical differentiator between the 630 and the 730 — if automated profiling is a workflow requirement, start there.
Print-to-print repeatability on the 630 is rated at 95% of colours within 3 dE2000, measured at 12-pass mode on vinyl media.
HP 832 Latex inks are water-based and contain no Hazardous Air Pollutants. No special ventilation is required for the ink chemistry itself. When printing on PVC-based vinyl or banner media, mild off-gassing can occur from the media plasticisers during the curing stage. This is from the substrate, not the ink. For completely odour-neutral output, HP PVC-free substrates, wallcoverings, and paper-based media produce no detectable odour.

HP 832 ink cartridges use a cardboard-based housing rather than plastic, reducing consumable plastic waste. Used cartridges are accepted for free recycling through the HP Planet Partners programme.
The HP Latex 630W adds a white ink channel for printing on clear and metallic substrates, window graphics with opaque white backgrounds, backlit displays requiring a white underflood, and dark-substrate decals where colour fidelity requires a white base layer.
The 630W uses automatic white ink recirculation to keep the ink in suspension during idle periods, a significant maintenance advantage over implementations requiring manual purging. For operations running white ink intermittently, this reduces waste and maintenance time. If your production does not require white ink, the base HP Latex 630 is the correct choice.
HP 832 Latex inks achieve a 7-year outdoor durability rating on laminated 3M cast vinyl under 3M MCS Warranty specifications. Unlaminated prints on standard calendered vinyl are rated for up to 3 years outdoors, comparable to eco-solvent on the same substrates without lamination. For fleet graphics and long-duration installations, lamination is recommended to achieve the full rating.

Graficomp is not a box-mover. Every HP Latex 630 purchase includes commissioning by a certified HP engineer and operator training before the machine enters production. We carry 40 to 50 years of combined engineering experience on the HP DesignJet and Latex ranges.
HP Amplify Partner Program
HP Amplify is HP's global partner programme for authorised resellers and service organisations. Specialist status is not automatic — it requires demonstrated technical competency, customer satisfaction metrics, and a minimum volume of certified deployments. Graficomp holds Commercial Specialist designations across two distinct solution areas within the Large Format portfolio, as well as Synergy Commercial Partner status.
When you buy an HP Latex 630 through Graficomp, you are buying through a partner that HP recognises as qualified to deliver the full solution: hardware, installation, training, and ongoing service. That is what HP Amplify Specialist status means in practice.
HP delivers equipment free to any location in South Africa, including outlying areas where freight costs from other suppliers can run into thousands of rand. Graficomp's engineers travel to site for installation across all regions.
Decisive routing. No hedging. If the 630 is not the right answer for your operation, these conditions will tell you which machine is.
Integrated print-and-cut machines link two hardware components in a single unit. When the printer fails, the cutter fails with it. A separate cutter operates completely independently — you can cut while you print, send cutting jobs from any source, and if the printer goes down the cutter keeps running.
Cutters also outlast printing hardware significantly. The mechanical precision of a dedicated cutting plotter, and its ability to handle a broader range of media thicknesses and contour cutting tolerances, exceeds what an integrated print-and-cut unit can deliver.
The 64" cutter Graficomp pairs with the 630 series retails independently for north of R100,000. Through Graficomp's current package, you get it alongside the printer at a significantly reduced cost. You are not compromising on cutting capability — you are getting a better cutter than most integrated alternatives.
| Buyer condition | Recommended model |
|---|---|
| Moving up from eco-solvent; moderate daily volume; no spectrophotometer required | HP Latex 630 |
| Need white ink for window graphics, backlit, or dark substrates | HP Latex 630W |
| Daily volume above 20 m²; repeat brand clients; rolls over 42 kg; need embedded spectrophotometer | HP Latex 730 |
| High-volume operation; speed parity with eco-solvent required (up to 36 m²/hr standard) | HP Latex 830 |
| Need to print on rigid substrates (foamboard, ACM, acrylic) as well as roll media | HP Latex R530 (separate category) |
The HP Latex 630 accepts rolls up to 249 mm (9.8 in) in diameter and up to 42 kg (92.6 lb) in weight. Roll widths from 18 to 64 inches are supported, with full platen support for rolls 23 inches and wider. If your rolls regularly exceed 42 kg, the HP Latex 730 raises the maximum to 55 kg.
Yes. The HP Latex 630 integrates with the HP PrintOS platform, which provides real-time production monitoring, job status, and printer health data from any connected device via browser. PrintOS also includes HP PrintBeat analytics and HP Learn training resources. Access is included with the printer at no additional cost for core features.
No. HP 832 Latex inks are water-based and contain no Hazardous Air Pollutants. No special ventilation is required for the ink chemistry. When printing on PVC-based vinyl or banner media, mild off-gassing can occur from the media plasticisers during the curing stage — this is from the substrate, not the ink. HP PVC-free substrates, wallcoverings, and paper-based stocks produce no detectable odour. The 630 is rated neutral for hedonic tone in independent odour testing by Odournet under VDI Guideline 3882.
HP 832 Latex inks achieve a 7-year outdoor durability rating on laminated 3M cast vinyl under 3M MCS Warranty specifications. Unlaminated output on standard calendered vinyl is rated up to 3 years outdoors, comparable to eco-solvent on the same substrates without lamination. For high-traffic indoor applications, HP Latex output does not require a seal coat — an advantage over eco-solvent in environments where lamination is impractical.
The HP Latex 630 performs automatic maintenance routines to preserve printhead condition during idle periods. Water-based HP Latex inks do not dry and harden in the printheads during normal idle cycles the way eco-solvent inks can. Short idle periods of one to three weeks are handled automatically. For extended shutdowns beyond a month, contact Graficomp for the correct storage procedure.
HP SAi Flexi RIP Basic is included in the box and runs on Windows only. Mac-based workflows require a third-party RIP such as Caldera, ONYX, or Ergosoft. Graficomp can advise on the correct RIP configuration before purchase. Contact us at sales@graficomp.co.za or call 011 792 1348.
No. The HP Latex 630 does not include an embedded spectrophotometer. ICC profiles can be loaded manually via the RIP software, and third-party spectrophotometers are compatible for in-house profiling.
For production teams managing repeat brand clients requiring automated ICC profile creation and colour verification, the HP Latex 730 and HP Latex 830 include an HP Embedded Spectrophotometer. That is the primary technical justification for stepping up from the 630.
HP Latex printheads are user-replaceable. No engineer is required on site. Head strikes happen in print production — on HP Latex, you order the replacement head, install it yourself in under 10 minutes, and you are back in production. On many competing platforms, a head strike means waiting for a technician visit, potentially losing days of production. The 630 includes 5 user-replaceable printheads covering all ink channels.
Yes. HP Latex inks print on coated polyester, backlit textile, canvas, synthetic blends, and natural fibres including pure cotton and tissue paper when used with a liner. Textile and soft-signage is a growing application area for Latex — including exhibition backdrops, interior display fabric, flags, and custom apparel. This is an application that most eco-solvent platforms cannot serve from the same machine.
